The Falconer Trust
The Falconer Trust was formed in 1980 by Henry and Irene Webb, and its primary aim is to support the work of Lilias Falconer and the Children’s home that she started in 1949 in Kabulamema, Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia. Henry and Rene both passed away in 2010, and the work is now run by a board of trustees along with Trust Manager, Neil Starling. The trust has a warehouse and office in Norfolk, from where all of the donated goods are stored and dispatched.
The Falconer Children’s Home
The Falconer Children’s Home and Orphanage was established in 1947 by Lilias Falconer, a nurse from Manchester. It is situated in Kabulamema, in a remote part of the North Western province of Zambia. Miss Falconer ran the Home for fifty years, until she passed away in 1998, and it is now being run by her children. Simon Samutala arrived at the Home just two days old and is now in charge of all the different activities and projects. Miriam Mulyata came when she was seven days old, and having trained as a nurse has the responsibility of looking after the children’s welfare and the running of the main house.
The Falconer Children's Home is a registered charity within Zambia, and is overseen by the Zambian authorities. It is required to comply with the regulations of Zambian Social Welfare. The Falconer Trust in the UK exists solely to provide support for the Home, but has no authority to make any decisions or impose any stipulations on how the Home operates. The Trust does, however, have a duty to ensure that resources provided to the Home are used correctly. The relationship between the Home and the Trust is therefore a collaborative one, whilst recognising the autonomy of the Home.

Irrigation Project
Work on installing the equipment to provide irrigation at the farm is now at an advanced stage. This very important project will enable the Home to become more self sufficient, provide food security, provide jobs, generate an income for the Home. An irony is that this year's maize crop has had to be harvested early, because unseasonal rains have threatened to ruin the crop. The heavy rains at this time of year are very unusual, and underline the challenges brought about by climate change.

Some Important Information Regarding Parcels
We regret that we will soon cease sending out parcels of goods to the Falconer Home, as excessive bureaucracy is causing intolerable delays, complications and expense. We therefore cannot accept any further donations of goods. We will of course continue to support the Home financially. Thank you for your support over the years in donating goods. We hope that you will feel able to continue to support the work through finance and prayer.
